Sharon Fairhurst

Sharon joined Making Space as Director of Services in 2008 and is currently responsible for directorate 2, which covers Greater Manchester, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and the Midlands.

Sharon has overall responsibility for all areas of operational and quality management across the directorate, and also for growth and development within the patch.

Sharon line manages our Dementia SPACE Team which is our central team to ensure best practice, quality, innovation and learning in dementia support internally, and offers training and consultancy services to other organisations.

Sharon also has the senior management lead for co-production and volunteering within Making Space, having line management responsibility for the team manager.

Starting her health and social care career by qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse in 1987, Sharon worked for the NHS before moving into the voluntary sector working with ex-offenders in London.

After this, Sharon then moved into the drug and alcohol field working for Turning Point in a rehabilitation centre in Chester, where she eventually went on to be the Service Manager. She stayed with Turning Point in both Area Manager and Business Director roles overseeing substance misuse, mental health and learning disability services.

Sharon has a post graduate Diploma in Management, is a Prince 2 Practitioner and a dementia care mapper.

When not at work, Sharon is a long standing member of a book group and enjoys reading, watching movies, eating out, live music and camping in the summer months
