Donations and Legacies
As a charitable organisation, Making Space has a responsibility to use its funds and income to provide important support for the people who use our services. Much of this income is self-generated or introduced as a result of local and national funding. But we also rely heavily on the generosity of those who make donations. If you’d like to support the work we undertake, you can now do so online.
We cannot thank you enough for your vital donations.
Legacies
Making Space makes a real difference to the lives of over 5,000 people who directly rely on our services - people with mental health conditions, dementia and learning disabilities, and the people who care for them. This is a source of great joy to us, but 5,000 is only a fraction of the people who need access to the services we can provide and who we could help.
As governments change, and sometimes priorities change with them, it’s evident that we will depend more and more on voluntary income from donors – typically a major source of income for most charities.
As a registered charity we’re always interested in finding resources to help us support even more people toward enjoying the everyday life we all aspire to. A great way to give us that help is to leave a gift in your will. Any amount makes a difference!
Of course, first and foremost you’ll want to take care of your own family and friends, and special causes with which you have an affinity. But please also remember Making Space. Thinking about a legacy is a poignant and emotional matter, but there are some practical reasons why it could be a serious consideration…
Inheritance tax is one – If your estate is worth over £325,000 you’ll pay 40% on any amount you leave above that. A gift in your will to Making Space is exempt from inheritance tax and could lower the amount of your estate which is subject to this tax.
You, or a person close to you, may need to use Making Space services – There are ways to make provision for people where funds can be administered in the best interest of the people you wish to directly benefit from your gift. Making Space can advise on the best avenue for these gifts – sometimes called discretionary trust funds.
Please bear in mind that the nature of our services – although not our overall mission – may change from time to time. This means a very specific request for the use of your gift may not be possible in the event of unpredictable changes. In anticipation of possible changes, we’d ask you to make Making Space the secondary beneficiary. This way, you have the confidence of knowing your money will always be used where it will benefit the people who use our services most.
