Sam's story

Making Space Mental Health Services

Samantha Weston was referred to our Carer Development Service in April 2012 where she took part in our Build Skills Build Confidence course from April - July 2012.

At the start, Sam was very quiet and didn’t really wish to engage with other service users, however as the weeks progressed this changed dramatically. Sam became become more involved in the group, so much so that at the end of the course Sam enquired about volunteering for us.

In July 2012, Sam started her role as a volunteer for our Carer Development Service and her confidence grew and grew. Soon after Sam actually started to deliver the Build Skills Build Confidence course herself to other service users.

“It was so rewarding to see this transition taking place” said Team Leader, Jane Reeves.

But the story doesn’t end there. A vacancy became available for a paid position at our Carer Development Service and with support Sam applied for the post and got the job!

We are delighted to say that Sam is still with us and has been a great asset to the team! Sam has experienced other roles within our organisation such as; Carer Breaks and Carer Support, she has also been involved in a project with Cheshire West and 7 Chester to help identify carers in employment.
