Delivering Dementia Care & Support - Best Practice Example 2

Here at Making Space, we specialise in providing dementia care and support to thousands of people across the country, helping individuals and their families from early diagnosis right through to the later stages of dementia.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing 3 best practice examples from our dementia work through 3 unique lenses. Looking at; what commissioners ask for, what people with dementia and their carers tell us and what we are learning.

Have you read our first best practice example? We focused on what commissioners ask for, and how our Doncaster Admiral Nurse service came about.

What people with dementia and their carers tell us - Dementia Law Clinic

Our Dementia Law Clinic is a service we set up in partnership with The University of Manchester, and is just the second clinic in the country to offer free legal support to dementia carers.

The clinic provides advice on the many complex issues you can face when caring for someone with dementia, including home disputes and powers of attorney.

One-to-one consultations via Skype are available for you and your family to discuss your personal circumstances, and receive legal advice from professionals. You will also receive a letter of advice within two weeks of your consultation.

Hot spots

After a successful 6 month pilot of clinic, we are delighted to announce we will now be rolling the service out across the country! We run various different hot spots up and down the country where legal, admiral nursing and communication appointments are on offer.

Carol Garrett is our Greater Manchester Area Manager, however recently Carol accessed one of our services as a service user, rather than an employee.

Carol tells us how the clinic helped her.
