Dementia Law Clinic is open

Does your family need support in caring for someone with dementia? Do you have legal concerns? We understand that caring for someone with dementia can be daunting prospect, but here at Making Space we're passionate about supporting you in planning for the future.

Our Dementia Law Clinic is open for appointments as of Monday 6 February 2017. We run various different hot spots up and down the country, where legal, admiral nursing and communication and wellbeing appointments are on offer.

This appointment is provided by The University of Manchester’s free legal centre and helps you deal with any issues you may have around any legal matters, including:

  • Advance decisions (previously known as advance directives) to refuse treatment
  • Community care assessments
  • Continuing healthcare
  • Court of protection

Admiral nursing

Admiral nurses are specialist dementia nurses who give expert practical, clinical and emotional support to families living with dementia. They are registered nurses and have significant experience of working with people living with dementia. Our admiral nurse will support and advise you on issues faced at any point in your journey.

Communication and wellbeing

This session is for any family member, carer or person living with dementia who would like help or support with communication and wellbeing. We will share ideas around improving communication as well as aids to help you communicate effectively.

At the communication and wellbeing sessions we will use meaningful and purposeful activities to help improve wellbeing, reduce stress and anxiety and promote a better quality of life. These are friendly, informal sessions and can be delivered alongside a legal or admiral nurse appointment as a respite session.
