North Yorkshire Dementia Support Service
Do you, a member of your family or someone you care for experience the symptoms of dementia? Do you live in North Yorkshire? We can help you continue to live an active and fulfilled life.
Our vision is that you have a right to continue doing what you've always done, as well as being able to try new things for as long as possible.
There are 3 strands to our dementia support service which we use to help us meet your needs.
- Support from a dementia navigator
- Information and advice
- Educating you on dementia, living with dementia and coping mechanisms.
Once we're advised that you need some dementia support we will contact you as soon as possible to find out all about your personal circumstances. We understand it's natural to have some anxiety when early symptoms appear, which is why a Making Space key support worker is on hand for immediate support.
We will get to know you as an individual and then together, with support from your family members and carers, we will provide the help and support you need.
We can also involve other agencies who can further benefit you.
We believe that carers make a huge contribution to society, and we think they deserve all the support in understanding more about dementia, and the skills they might need.
As part of our service we will help carers to develop strategies to look after their loved ones at home for longer.
We will help you to
- Attend relevant training courses
- Develop the knowledge and skills to enable you to cope with any issues you may face
- Spend time and share experiences with other carers
- Get the latest information about therapies and treatments
