Staffordshire Work4You

Making Space Work4You employment service covers Staffordshire (excluding Stoke on Trent) to enable individuals who have or had a mental health diagnosis to gain and retain the type of paid work they choose to have.

If you currently have, or are recovering from a mental health condition and are registered with a GP in the county of Staffordshire (excluding Stoke-on-Trent), then our Staffordshire Work4You service can help find the best possible employment opportunities for you.

Paid work can build your self-esteem, give you independence and make a positive difference to your wellbeing– all things which help you to enjoy an everyday life.

For a variety of reasons, people with mental health conditions may face barriers when engaging in employment opportunities. Our employment service aims to address this problem, so if you’re aiming for full time or part time employment, or maybe you’d like to set up your own business, we can give you the expert advice you need to get into work, work experience or supported permitted work. We can also advise on how your benefits will change and offer help with retaining employment.

What we do

We will allocate you one of our Mental Health Employment Advisor’s who will arrange an initial meeting with you at a location in the community of your choice, somewhere you feel safe and comfortable. At the meeting we will work together to agree an initial action plan and introduce you to our ‘Work Star’ initiative. Work Star is a way of working with you to assess your progress in areas such as:

  • Individual challenges
  • Job-specific skills
  • Stability of job once employed
  • Job search skills
  • Basic skills
  • Aspiration and motivation
  • Social skills for work

Then we tailor our service to help you gain paid employment by:

  • Building your CV
  • Filling in application forms
  • Interview techniques
  • Support and advice on managing your money (if moving from benefits to work)
  • On-going support for you and your employer when you are in-work

"I have enjoyed my first 2 weeks in work and have got to grips with the essentials. The first week was the hardest in terms of my anxiety and self confidence, but I started to get into the groove in my second week. If someone asks me if I am in work I can now reply 'yes I am'. To be able to say that brings tears to my eyes and is a sense of relief. "
