Inspiring awards day celebrates success at Colne Services

At the end of February, the community at Limes Place and Bright Street in Colne came together for a very special celebration, an awards event organised and hosted by Shahida, a person who draws on our support and lives at Bright Street.

Limes Place and Bright Street provide care and support for adults with complex needs, and the event was Shahida’s idea to recognise the achievements, progress and dedication of both the people who live there and the Support Workers who help make those successes possible.

Held at Limes Place, the day was filled with gratitude and celebration. Shahida worked hard to make the event memorable for everyone who attended, even cooking a selection of delicious curries and preparing a buffet for guests to enjoy. The celebration was also attended by local councillors Dorothy Lord and Andrew Bell, who joined in recognising the incredible achievements within the community.

Shahida created the awards to celebrate how far people have come over the past year and to give everyone the chance to recognise those who have supported them along the way. Service users were able to nominate support workers who had made a real difference in their lives.

Reflecting on the event, Shahida said:

The event was amazing and everyone had a brilliant time. It was great to have the support of the local councillors, and they loved it too. Thank you so much – especially to Making Space for supporting the event and helping to make it possible.

Support Worker Recognition Awards:

The following support workers were nominated by the tenants in recognition of their compassion, dedication and positive impact:

• Leah Holt – for her outstanding empathy, unwavering willingness to help, and for always bringing a smile and shining brightly in all she does.
• Katherine Montgomery – for her dedication and generosity in providing 'P' with additional support whenever they need it.
• Laura Morrisey – for her kind and caring nature, consistently showing warmth and compassion to everyone around her.
• Gemma Oddie – for her kind heart and the compassion and thoughtfulness she shows to those she supports.
• Robyn Weinberg – for the wisdom and understanding she shares in conversations that help 'B' better understand themselves.
• Miranda Ross – for being a brilliant support worker whose dedication and kindness make a meaningful difference every day.
• Charmaine Later – for her outstanding support in helping 'T' overcome their anxieties.
• Claire Norcliffe – for always going above and beyond, consistently giving more than expected.
• Julie Birckett – for her unwavering kindness and support in always helping 'D' whenever they needs it.

People Accessing Support Achievement Awards:

The event also celebrated the personal achievements and progress made by people supported at the services over the past year:

• D – recognised for incredible courage and determination in making positive changes and taking important steps to get their life back on track.
• S – recognised for remarkable growth in confidence, securing a job cooking for others each week and inspiring people through their work as a mental health educator.
• T – recognised for growth in self-confidence and independence, confidently exploring new places and embracing greater freedom.
• B – recognised for securing a role delivering specialist training to health and social care professionals, demonstrating dedication and a commitment to making a difference.
• P – recognised for developing independence, confidently going out on their own and learning new their love of baking and cooking while enjoying more time reading and learning.
• Z – recognised for courage and self-awareness in reaching out for support when they needs it, demonstrating strength and resilience.

The event was a wonderful reminder of the strength of the community at Limes Place and Bright Street, a place where people support, encourage and celebrate one another.
