A Million Acts of Hope: Making Space joins national movement to celebrate kindness

Published 27 April 2026
Making Space is proud to announce that we have signed up to take part in A Million Acts of Hope, a national campaign launching in May 2026.
Taking place between 13-20 May, this inspiring UK-wide initiative brings together charities, community groups and faith organisations to shine a light on the everyday moments of kindness and connection that unite us. Because, ultimately, there is far more that connects us than divides us.
A message from Rachel Peacock, CEO of Making Space, said:
At times, watching the news or scrolling through social media can make it feel like our country is increasingly divided. The loudest voices are often those that seek to spread hate or create division. But that is not the reality I see at Making Space.
Across our organisation – in head office, within our services, across our Senior Leadership Team, and among the people who draw on our support – I see compassion, kindness and community in action. I see colleagues going the extra mile and people supporting one another through incredibly difficult times. I see hope.
I am incredibly proud of Making Space and the difference we make every day, and I am excited to see the many acts of hope taking place across the country within our services as part of this campaign. In fact, I truly believe we could reach a million acts of hope through Making Space alone.
For my personal act of hope, I will be donating a bag of clothes to the Free Clothes Project run by Compassion Acts in my home town of Southport.
Our Senior Leadership Team is also taking part by committing to their own personal Acts of Hope. From checking in on neighbours and supporting those experiencing loss, to creating kindness initiatives within community groups and taking time to recognise colleagues, their actions reflect a shared commitment to compassion, connection and making a positive difference in everyday moments.
Simple but meaningful gestures - like donating to charity, offering time to listen, or helping someone feel less alone – show how small acts can create a ripple effect of hope across our organisation and the communities we serve. We will share more of their stories during the week.

Sharing acts of hope
We are excited to be part of this movement and look forward to sharing our own Acts of Hope from across Making Space – and just as importantly, hearing yours.
Across Making Space, teams and services are coming together to take part in the Million Acts of Hope campaign, with a wide range of activities designed to bring people together, inspire connection and celebrate positivity.
At our Warrington head office, we will host a special Hope in Warrington event on 20 May (12pm–6pm), bringing together local people, community groups and services for an afternoon focused on connection, creativity and community support. The event will feature performances from the Creating Adventures band and choir – a Warrington charity that supports adults with autism and learning disabilities to take part in social activities and build confidence - alongside a bake sale, book stall, plant stall, arts & crafts, and refreshments – creating a welcoming space to share hope, reduce isolation and bring people together. Fundraising will also take place throughout the day, with all money raised being shared between Making Space, Creating Adventures, and Warrington Disability Partnership, supporting people affected by hate crime. This reflects a shared commitment to giving back and supporting local organisations making a difference.
These are just some of the highlights, with many more activities planned across our services. At Stockport Connect Hub, people will take part in a seed planting session, while Stockport Open Door will host a Tree of Hope within the wellbeing hub. In Bradford and Airedale Carer Support Service, plans are underway for a nature walk and shared lunch for carers.
Across Darlington Extra Care schemes, Ashwood Court Supportive Pathways in Lowton, Sandalwood Dementia Support Day Centre in Doncaster and Rotherham Carers Support, creative “Trees of Hope” and shared displays will invite people to reflect and share their aspirations.
At Waterhouse Court in Leeds, an arts and crafts session will bring people together to enjoy the sunshine, while at Huddersfield Road Young Person Support Service, young people are creating a visual balcony display to brighten the local community.
At Palmyra in Liverpool, the campaign is being woven into everyday life within the service – with a “Hope Happens Here” board, shared playlists of uplifting music, and space for people to reflect on positive moments as part of ongoing EDI activity. At Syrian House in Sale, teams are continuing to recognise the everyday acts of kindness, reassurance and culturally appropriate support that help people feel safe, and valued
Meanwhile, at Swallow Lodge and Cedar House respite services in Lincolnshire, people we support, families and staff are coming together to create uplifting activities centred around kindness, positivity and hope. This includes a “Swallow Lodge Post Office” where kind messages and words of encouragement can be shared, alongside a Tree of Hope and “sunflowers of hope” activities at Cedar House, symbolising growth, positivity and new beginnings.
Teams across Making Space, including Knowsley Supported Housing, are also exploring ways to get involved.
