Making Space marks Volunteers’ Week 2026

Published 26 May 2026
Volunteers’ Week returns from 1 to 7 June 2026, and Making Space is proud to join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across the UK in recognising the incredible contributions of volunteers.
Now in its 42nd year, Volunteers’ Week has been running annually since 1984. It provides a vital opportunity to thank volunteers and acknowledge the immense value of their time, skills and dedication. The campaign celebrates the diversity and unity of volunteer work, while encouraging stronger connections between organisations, grassroots groups and local communities.
This Volunteers’ Week, Making Space will be celebrating and thanking our volunteers at the organisation’s annual Volunteer Celebration Event, taking place on 4 June at The Midland Hotel. Manchester. The day will include entertainment and a delicious three-course lunch as a token of appreciation for the dedication, compassion and commitment volunteers bring to services across the organisation.
Toni Pike, National Volunteers Co-ordinator at Making Space, said:
Volunteers’ Week is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the incredible impact our volunteers make across Making Space every single day. Our volunteers bring kindness, compassion, lived experience and dedication to the people we support, their families and our teams, helping to create stronger, more connected communities.
We’re incredibly proud to now have 125 volunteers supporting our services across the country. From helping at community groups and dementia cafés, to providing peer support, befriending, running activities, driving and practical help, every volunteer plays a valuable role in enriching lives and making a real difference.
Our annual Volunteer Celebration Event is a chance for us to come together and say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers for the time, energy and passion they give so generously throughout the year.
Babasanmi (Sanmi), who volunteers at Petherick Road, Liverpool, shared his experience of volunteering with Making Space:
Since I started volunteering at Making Space, I truly feel valued and appreciated. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get to know the residents and spend time supporting activities and engagement across the service. It’s been a really rewarding experience, and I’ve enjoyed building positive relationships and learning more about the people Making Space supports. Thanks to you and the entire Making Space team.
Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.
The UK Volunteering Forum said:
Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week. Without volunteers many charities just simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.
