New Stockport Wellbeing Hub brings local support together under one roof

Published 2 October 2026

We’ve officially launched the new Stockport Wellbeing Hub, creating a welcoming shared space where mental health, wellbeing and community organisations can work together to support people across Stockport.

The Hub, at 83 St Petersgate in Stockport town centre, was officially relaunched on 30 September, welcoming partners, local organisations and guests to see the new space and find out more about the support available.

Led and developed by Making Space, the Hub has grown from the relocation of our Open Door mental health crisis support service from its former home on Prince’s Street to the larger St Petersgate premises earlier this year.

The move gave us an opportunity to create much more than a new home for Open Door.

We’ve invested in refurbishing and fitting out the former bank building to create a flexible shared space where organisations can work alongside each other, making it easier for people to connect with mental health, wellbeing and community support in one place.

One building, one shared vision for wellbeing

Alongside our Open Door service, organisations using the Stockport Wellbeing Hub include Stockport Mind, Siyanda Trust, FikaWelie Caribbean & African Mental Health CIC, and We Are Survivors.

The Hub offers dedicated rooms for face-to-face support and one-to-one conversations, alongside shared workspace and flexible areas for partner organisations, activities, drop-in sessions and future pop-up services.

Bringing organisations together also creates more opportunities to share knowledge, strengthen relationships and develop new ways of working around the individual needs of people in Stockport.

The launch brought many of those partners together, alongside representatives from Stockport Council, commissioners, Greater Manchester Police and other local organisations. Guests also included Stockport MP Navendu Mishra.

A bigger home for Open Door

At the heart of the Hub is our Open Door service, which provides fast mental health and wellbeing support for people aged 18 and over living in Stockport who need immediate crisis management and emotional support.

There is no need for a formal mental health diagnosis or a referral to access Open Door. People can contact the team directly and receive support by telephone, video call or face-to-face at the Hub.

The move to St Petersgate hasn't changed the crisis support Open Door provides. Instead, the larger building gives our team more space to meet people face-to-face in an environment that can respond to individual needs, while closer links with other organisations can help people connect with wider support.

Fiona Marsden, Open Door Service Manager at Making Space, said:

Open Door has always been about making sure people can access support when they need it, without unnecessary barriers. There is no wrong door – if somebody comes to us needing help, we listen, understand what is happening for them and work with them to find the right way forward.

Moving to St Petersgate has given us much more space to meet people face-to-face in an environment that can respond to their individual needs, while also allowing us to develop the wider Wellbeing Hub around Open Door.

Having other organisations working alongside us means we can build stronger relationships, share knowledge and make connections that benefit the people who come through our doors. Importantly, Open Door is still providing the same crisis support people know and trust – but we now have a bigger, more flexible base and much greater potential to work collaboratively.

Working together for Stockport

Welcoming guests to the launch, Phil Orton, Deputy CEO of Making Space, said the Hub was about much more than sharing a building.

The Stockport Wellbeing Hub represents much more than bringing different services together in one building. It is about creating a different way of working – one that puts collaboration, partnership and the individual needs of people at its heart.

By working together in a shared space, we can make it easier for people to access the support they need, strengthen connections between organisations and create more opportunities to work collaboratively around the needs of people using our services.

Making Space has invested in transforming our new St Petersgate premises because we believe in what can be achieved when organisations work together. This is about creating stronger connections, improving access to support and, ultimately, helping people across Stockport live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Speaking at the launch, Navendu Mishra MP, Member of Parliament for Stockport, said:

This is a really special day for Stockport. The new Wellbeing Hub is in a fantastic, accessible location, bringing together different organisations, support and information in one welcoming place.

More and more people need support, and too often people can fall through the cracks and struggle to find it. Having somewhere like this, with organisations working together and so much support available under one roof, is fantastic.

When people talk about Stockport thriving, for me it’s about much more than house prices. It’s about the organisations, the people and the community, and this Hub is a great example of that.

A helping hand from B&Q

There has been some fantastic local support for our new home too. Ahead of the launch, a team of volunteers from B&Q Stockport gave their time to transform the Hub’s roof terrace, donating furniture and other items and turning the area into a welcoming and usable outdoor space.

The terrace can now be used for one-to-one sessions and informal meetings, or simply as somewhere for people accessing support and colleagues to step outside and take some time out. A huge thank you to everyone at B&Q Stockport who helped make the transformation possible.

And the development of the Hub doesn't stop here. We’ll continue to improve the space and work with existing and new partners to explore how it can be used to bring even more support, activities and opportunities to people in Stockport.

The Stockport Wellbeing Hub is about making connections easier – between people and support, between organisations and communities, and between services that share the same ambition to help people thrive.
