Making Space shortlisted for two national Housing with Care Awards

Published 14 May 2025
We’re incredibly proud to share that Making Space has been shortlisted for two Housing with Care Awards 2025, recognising excellence in providing care, support and co-production.
The Housing with Care Awards, run by Care Talk, celebrate the very best in accommodation and support services for older people, people with learning disabilities, and those living with mental health conditions. The awards also aim to raise awareness of diverse housing and care models, highlight innovation, and pay tribute to the incredible frontline workforce driving positive change across the UK.
This year, Making Space is a finalist in two categories:
The Care and Support Worker Award - Nichola Sutton
Nichola Sutton, who supports people at Harpers Green Extra Care, Warrington, has been shortlisted for her outstanding, person-centred approach. After joining Making Space following time spent raising her children, Nic says she’s found her true calling and second family.
Her energy, warmth, and attention to detail make a real difference every day, whether it’s singing with someone who’s non-verbal or supporting someone to feel confident outdoors. She builds trust, supports independence, and lives our values of compassion, respect, and partnership in everything she does.
Liz Kamwithi, Service Manager at Harpers Green, said:
Nic doesn’t see this as work. She thrives on every relationship and truly makes people feel seen, valued and supported.
The Tenant Co-Production Award - Making It Real Game
Our second nomination recognises our Co-Production Team and our the Making It Real Game – a creative, co-produced tool developed in 2024 to spark meaningful conversations about care and support.
Based on the Making It Real framework by Think Local Act Personal (TLAP), the game uses “I” statements like “I am treated with dignity and respect” to encourage reflection and discussion. It’s already being used across our services and is helping turn conversations into real, co-produced action.
Feedback has been fantastic, with people saying it’s fun, thought-provoking, and helps everyone understand each other better. TLAP has praised the game and invited us to share it through national webinars.
Rachel Peacock, CEO of Making Space, said:
These nominations reflect the heart of what we do at Making Space, delivering compassionate, person-centred care and making sure the voices of the people we support are at the centre of everything we do. We’re incredibly proud of Nichola and our Co-Production Team. Their commitment, creativity and genuine care inspire us all, and these nominations are a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Finalists from across the UK will come together for the awards ceremony on 6 June 2025 at the Hilton London Bankside. Whatever the outcome, we are already so proud of this recognition.
We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and cheering on all the amazing nominees!
