Making Space marks Volunteers’ Week 2025

Published 27 May 2025
Volunteers’ Week returns from 2 to 8 June 2025, and Making Space is proud to join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across the UK in recognising the incredible contributions of volunteers.
Now in its 41st year, Volunteers’ Week has been running annually since 1984. It provides a vital opportunity to thank volunteers and acknowledge the immense value of their time, skills and dedication. The campaign celebrates the diversity and unity of volunteer work, while encouraging stronger connections between organisations, grassroots groups and local communities.
This year, we’ll be celebrating and thanking our amazing volunteers at our third Volunteer Celebration Event, taking place on 4 June at Doncaster Racecourse. The day will include entertainment and a delicious three-course lunch as a token of our appreciation. We’ll also be sharing the exciting news of our Investing in Volunteers accreditation, and highlighting volunteer opportunities for those who’d like to get involved.
Toni Pike, National Volunteers Co-ordinator at Making Space, said:
Volunteers’ Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the incredible difference our volunteers make every day. Whether it’s through befriending, peer support, helping at dementia cafés, driving, running activities or supporting with admin and fundraising, their time, skills and lived experience enrich the lives of the people we support, their carers, and our staff teams.
We currently have 65 volunteers across Making Space, and each one plays a vital role. Many volunteers use their own experiences to support others, like those running peer groups at Warrington Connect Hub or carers who return to our dementia cafés to give back after losing a loved one. In turn, they gain new skills, confidence and meaningful connections that enhance their own wellbeing.
We’re proud to offer a variety of flexible opportunities, and we’re always looking to welcome more people into our volunteering community. To every single one of our volunteers - thank you. You are truly at the heart of what we do.
Ian, a volunteer with the Making Change Group and Bolton Mental Health Carer Support Service, shares what volunteering means to him:
Volunteering gives me the chance to share the knowledge and skills I've gained over the past 70 years. It's a real privilege to support others in the way I was once supported. For me, it's all about paying it forward. I'm truly grateful to the care organisations, like Making Space that have given me the opportunity to work alongside such amazing people.
Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.
The UK Volunteering Forum said:
Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week. Without volunteers many charities just simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.
