We All Are One – Making Space carers support group named finalist in the Carers UK Awards 2025

Published 3 September 2025

We are proud to announce that ‘We All Are One’ Making Space Carers Support Group in Doncaster has been named a finalist in the Carers UK Awards 2025, in the Community Group category.

The Carers UK Awards is a national celebration of remarkable individuals and organisations across the UK who make life better for unpaid carers. Every day, millions of people dedicate their time and energy to caring for loved ones, often without recognition or support. These awards shine a light on the people and groups who go above and beyond – through caring, campaigning, volunteering, or workplace initiatives - to create a more inclusive and supportive society.

The Community Group Award recognises local groups who provide practical, accessible, and regular support to unpaid carers. These groups reduce loneliness and isolation while showing the positive impact they have on their community through their activities.

Funded and supported by Making Space, We All Are One is a diverse and inclusive carers support group based in Doncaster. Meeting every Thursday, the group offers themed sessions that include gentle exercise, yoga, pampering, games, cultural events, and skills training – all designed to reduce stress and isolation, and to help carers enjoy life alongside their caring responsibilities.

What makes the group unique is its strong focus on equity, diversity, and lived experience. Carers from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds come together to connect and support one another. Between them, members speak over nine languages, and the group provides a safe space where language, culture, and background are never barriers to connection.

The impact of the group is felt deeply by its members. As one carer shared:

Coming here reduces my stress and isolation. It charges our batteries for our caring role again. This group has helped reduce hospital visits and improved the wellbeing of my son, and me.

Another member, who cares for her adult son with schizophrenia, said:

I care for my son 24/7, there’s no one else. Some days, I feel like I can’t carry on. But this group gave me hope. I’ve learned where to go for help, and I feel less alone.

It its heart, We All Are One is more than just a support group. It is a community movement, breaking down stigma, bridging cultural divides, and making sure no carer feels left behind.

The group is run by Rosemary Stephen, Making Space Equality & Diversity Coordinator, who said:

I am also excited and feel honoured on the group being short listed for this year Awards. I am also looking forward to celebrating the remarkable individuals and organisations across the UK who make life better for unpaid carers.

Making Space CEO, Rachel Peacock, also shared her pride:

We are so proud that We All Are One has been recognised on a national stage. This group truly represents our commitment to inclusivity, and empowerment. and the values of Making Space – from being kind and tailoring support to each individual, to dreaming big about what inclusive carer support can look like. The difference it makes to carers in Doncaster is inspiring, and we are delighted to see their work celebrated at the Carers UK Awards.

We will find out if We All Are One is successful at the finals at the Carers UK Awards ceremony, which will take place at Plaisterers’ Hall, London, on Thursday 16 October 2025.

Whatever the outcome, being named a finalist is already an incredible achievement, and a well-deserved recognition of a group that embodies unity, resilience, and hope for carers across Doncaster.
