Rachel has always worked in the voluntary sector, beginning as a youth worker and progressing to her current role as CEO of Making Space, a national social care charity. She has built her career on fairness, inclusivity, and person-centred care, and is a passionate advocate for co-production, ensuring people have real choice in shaping their lives.
Since leading the development of Making Space’s core values in 2017, Rachel has embedded “kind hearts” at the centre of our culture and practice. Innovation and collaboration have been central to her leadership, from pioneering new models of care to creating environments where both colleagues and the people we support can thrive.
Talking about being a finalist, Rachel said:
I’m honoured to be named a finalist in the Social Care Top 30 for 2025. Social care is the best profession in the world – more than a job, it’s a calling to create environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered. Fairness and co-production are the guiding lights of my leadership, and this recognition is really a reflection of the amazing colleagues and people I have the privilege to work alongside every day.
We couldn’t be prouder of Rachel and this well-deserved recognition. The whole Making Space family will be cheering her on as she joins fellow finalists at the awards dinner in October.
We also wish every finalist the very best of luck, this celebration is a wonderful reminder of the inspiring people driving positive change across social care.
